The Winding Snake River
Snake River, also known as "Snake River", is a major river in the northwest of the United States. It is the largest tributary of Columbia River and one of the most important rivers along the Pacific Northwest of the United States. It's called Snake River. As the name implies, the river is winding and zigzag, like a long snake.
Snake River originates near Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. It flows westward through the sneck river canyon into Idaho. After crossing the whole Idaho from east to west, it turns northward and becomes the border between Idaho, Oregon and Washington state. The end of the Snake River turns West and joins the Columbia River in Washington state. With a total length of 1670km, the Snake River flows through Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, Idaho, Oregon and Washington, with a drainage area of 282000km2. Because the Lewis Clark expedition was the first team to go to the river basin for scientific research, it was also known as the "Louis River". The Snake River is home to a large number of salmon and rainbow trout.
