Let’s go to Kapaau to visit the statue of King Kamehameha
King Kamehameha I was a strong and brave soldier, an outstanding diplomat and a great leader. In 1810, King Kamehameha I ended years of fighting in the Hawaiian Islands and established a unified kingdom of Hawaii.
The statue of King Kamehameha I was set up by the Hawaiian people to commemorate his great achievements. It is located in the town of kapaau on the big island of Hawaii, not far from where he was born. It is said that the statue was first carved in Paris, France, but the ship carrying the statue sank on its way to Honolulu in 1880. The statue was thought to have been lost in the sea, so a new replica of the statue stands in downtown Honolulu. In 1912, people miraculously found the first statue and restored it and placed it where it is today. Now, the statue has become one of the most famous landmarks in the town of kapao, the big island of Hawaii. Almost every tourist here pays tribute to the great king and takes photos here.
