Urban Climate Characteristics in Alaska
Cities such as Anchorage in southern
Alaska are relatively warm because of mountain barriers. In the central region, because of the valley topography, such as the city of Fairbanks, inversion often occurs in winter, coupled with the dual role of the sub-polar climate, extreme low temperatures often occur in the central region in winter. As for Brooks Ridge and its northern coastal plains, such as Barrow, it has a polar climate, long cold years and only a short summer.
