About Navajo
Navajo is a Native American people in the southwest of the United States. It is the largest existing Native American population in North America, with an estimated population of about 300,000. The name "Navajo" originated from the Spanish, and the people called themselves "Din e", meaning "human" in the Navajo language.
Navajo Nation, the tribal government known as Navajo Nation, spans 70,000 square kilometers across Arizona, New Mexico and Utah. The tribal government has local autonomy, and its capital is located in the town of Window Rock, Arizona.
"Navajo" means "great field" in Indian, and Monument Valley is a treasure trove for them: fertile land suitable for farming crops, grazing cattle and sheep, and dangerous terrain to protect their homes from enemies.
