The Origin of the name for Jamestown
According to the name of the King of England, the colonists named the river into the Atlantic as James River, and the settlement was
Jamestown. The whole new colony is called "Virginia", which means "Virgin Land", in memory of Elizabeth I, the "Virgin King" who died in 1603. The daughter of Henry VIII and the half-sister of Bloody Mary are among the most wise monarchs in British history.
